Transformer is thrilled to present: Chance video-dances: Public Art Projections by Jane Jerardi
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Chance is the latest project by Jane Jerardi - a new video-dance series and public art project that considers the luck of being in the ‘right place at the right time.' Focusing on everyday coincidences that go mostly unnoticed, but create beautiful relationships between diverse people, these eerie and beautiful dance videos will appear projected on the outside of buildings in downtown DC throughout the month of September. The idea of chance will permeate the way it is presented, with audiences happening upon the projected videos by chance, bringing startling and beautiful art to everyday places.
Chance originated with a residency about dance improvisation and video at the School for Arts in Learning, a public charter school in DC, with a small group of 5th and 6th graders. Following this, Jane developed a set of video shorts—filming in unlikely locations including an old ballroom and city park benches with Brian Buck and Ginger Wagg.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jane Jerardi is a performer, choreographer, and artist based in Washington, D.C. She has created work for a variety of contexts – from theaters and galleries to record store listening booths, public subway escalators and projected videos – creating work that often moves fluidly between media. A frequent collaborator - she's created work with a host of artists including dance artists Ginger Wagg and Maré Hieronimus; composers Scanner (aka Robin Rimbaud) and Lucas Zarwell; and visual artists Michael Wichita and Agata Olek, among others.
A three-time recipient of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Young Emerging Artist award, her work has been presented throughout the metropolitan DC area - including at Transformer, The Warehouse, Dance Place, and the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage - as well as in New York at the Joyce Soho and at Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church, and in Shepherdstown, WV at the Goose Route Festival.
Most recently, her work Efficiency was commissioned by the Washington Performing Arts Society and presented at GALA's Tivoli Theatre in Washington DC. Jane received a New Media grant award from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities to complete recent project, Façade, which was presented in DC in early October 2006, with collaborators Ginger Wagg, Michael Wichita, and Rebecca Mills and Tristana Fiscella of The Caution Curves. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where she studied dance and cultural studies.
