MacDowell Residency

  • This spring and summer residency offers a studio, accommodations, and three meals a day for up to six weeks. There are no residency fees, and financial assistance is offered to reimburse the costs of travel, rent, lost income, and childcare.

  • The residency is open to artists of all backgrounds and all countries in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theater, and visual arts.

Princeton Arts Fellowships at Lewis Center for the Arts

  • Open to early-career artists demonstrating extraordinary promise, fellows receive a $92,000 yearly stipend and benefits to spend two academic years at Princeton as active community members, engaging in formal teaching or alternate assignments.

  • Deadline: September 10, 2024

Hodder Fellowships at Princeton University’s Lewis Center for the Arts

  • Open to artists demonstrating “much more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts,” applicants are selected more “for promise than for performance.” Fellows receive a $92,000 stipend to pursue an independent project over one academic year, no teaching required.

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council 2025 Manhattan Arts Grants

  • LMCC awards public and private funding to Manhattan-based individual artists, collectives, and nonprofit organizations for the presentation of arts programming in any discipline in Manhattan. Apply for up to $16,000 for a single project in any discipline in 2025. Read more about guidelines and applications for Creative Engagement, Creative Learning, and UMEZ Arts Engagement.

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council 2025 SU-CASA

  • Embodying healthy aging through the arts, SU-CASA is LMCC’s annual program placing teaching artists at Manhattan senior centers. Through this open call, LMCC selects individual artists and small collectives of two to carry out unique arts participatory projects they propose and lead from January to June 2025. Artists comfortable facilitating in Cantonese, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese are highly encouraged to apply.

Guggenheim 2025 Ambroggio Prize | New York, New York

  • This poet-in-resident focuses on public engagement to collaborate with the Guggenheim’s public programs department to design activations and experiences for the museum’s adult, teen, and youth audiences to engage with poetry as an artistic form. The position comes with a $20,000 honorarium.

Stone Canoe Journal Visual Arts Open Call | Upstate New York

  • Stone Canoe Journal is a nationally recognized literary and arts journal that showcases the work of a diverse mix of emerging and well-established artists and writers with strong connections to Upstate New York. This opportunity is open to all mediums and all artists over the age of 18 who have some connection to Upstate New York (Rockland, Westchester, and above).

ON::View Artist Residency Program

  • Located in the heart of Savannah’s Starland District at ARTS Southeast’s flagship project, Sulfur Studios, the ON::VIEW Artist Residency provides a free, high visibility studio space for an artist to complete a new project, to continue an in-progress endeavor, or to conduct research exploring conceptual, material, performative, and social practices.

Dedalus Foundation Senior Fellowship in Art History

  • This program supports art historians, critics, and curators pursuing projects related to painting, sculpture, and allied arts from the 20th century. Stipends vary with need, with a $30,000 maximum.

Stable Arts Open forum October | On Art and Writing

  • Marcus Civin is fascinated with relationships between the written and the visual, text and image, art and writing, artists and writers, and creativity and criticism. This experience will be perfect for artists, writers, artists who write, writers who make art, artists who use text in their work or are inspired by writing, writers who engage with art, anyone considering how to talk about their work, write about their work, or engage with writers or writing about art.

Stable Arts Open forum November | What about this?; The Art of Self Discovery and Self Exposure

  • Today artists are pressured to tell personal stories in their work and professional interactions. Through lecture, exercises, discussion and critique we'll explore how art can be a conduit for self discovery and how to navigate conversations about creative practices that weigh on artists' history and identities.

The Institute for Public Architecture 2025 Spring Independent Project Residency

  • The IPA Independent Project Residency program invites emerging and mid-career practitioners – whose work focuses on the public realm – to live and work during an eleven week live-in Residency at the IPA Block House on Governors Island. The Residency program is open to local and global applicants from diverse backgrounds, educations, experiences, and aspirations at any stage of their career. Applicants may be practitioners working across disciplines, with an emphasis on the public realm.

McColl Center Summer 2025 Artist In Residence

  • The Summer 2025 Artist-in-Residence Program is specifically for parents and educators who otherwise would not have the opportunity to participate because of their responsibilities during school/university periods.

Tyler School of Art and Architecture Edgar Heap of Birds Family Artist Residency
| Temple University, Philadelphia, PA

  • This five-month residency (Jan-May 2025) in the Art Department will reward an artist whose work is primarily focused on the history and lived experience of North American federally recognized tribal citizens and who exemplifies the art and activism of the artist Edgar Heap of Birds in bringing attention to the lives, struggles and triumphs of Native Americans. The residency includes an individual studio, $1,500 materials budget, the opportunity to teach students, participation in a solo exhibition, and a $3,500/month stipend.

McColl Center Summer 2025 Parent + Educator Artists-in-Residence

  • This residency is offered to parents and educators who otherwise would not have the opportunity to participate in McColl Center residency because of their responsibilities during school/university periods. This residency will support their practices, give you the chance to bring your family with you, use the facilities, and equipment offered by the Center on our Labs.  Residents enjoy private housing, a large-scale studio, guidance, marketing support, and a stipend. Access to shared labs: 3D, ceramics, media, and woodshop. The program runs from June 3 – August 11, 2025.

2024 Foundwork Artist Prize: International Open Call

  • Winners will receive an unrestricted $10,000 grant and remote studio visits with each of the esteemed jurors. The honoree—and three shortlisted artists—will also be invited for interviews, as part of our Dialogues program, to further public engagement with their practices. To be considered, artists need to register and maintain a published profile on Foundwork, with at least 6 artworks and an artist statement published on your profile page, throughout the 2024 selection period: 11:59 pm PT, September 26, 2024 to 11:59 pm, December 31, 2024

Pioneer Works Open Call

  • The Visual Arts Residency provides artists with glass-enclosed public-facing studios; bimonthly studio visits; access to our resources; and public engagement opportunities.

Farm Studio International Artist Residency 2025 | India

  • Farm Studio International Artist Residency is located in a rural community in India. Residents stay and create in a quiet art centre and beautiful environment where they can develop their artwork free from accustomed distractions. Farm Studio residency provides three types of working spaces where artists can explore their art and ideas in the rural Rajasthani environment; at the Farm Studio indoor studios, the outdoor desert and farm environments, and in Andore Village.

Rauschenberg Emergency Grants

  • These grants of up to $5,000 support direct treatment expenses that have been incurred, or are needed, for medical, dental or mental health treatment. Artists practicing in the visual arts, film, video, electronic, digital arts, and choreography are eligible.

S&R Evermay Kuno Award | Washington D.C.*

  • S&R Evermay’s Kuno Award for Applied Science for the Social Good is an bi-annual award of $100,000 in funding and other resources designed to support female social innovators using scientific research and principles to address a 21st Century problem. The award is designed to support those aiming to achieve a measurable social impact through the  translation of scientific research to a practical and real-world solution.

Redux Contemporary Art Center Annual Auction Call For Art | Charleston, SC

  • This is your chance to showcase your work, immerse yourself in Charleston’s vibrant art scene, connect with passionate collectors, and champion a fantastic non-profit arts organization! Be apart of Redux's largest fundraiser of the year. All mediums, styles, and themes welcome. Every sale directly supports Redux’s enriching programs, from educational outreach to free exhibitions and affordable art studios.

Blah Blah Gallery Open Call | Washington D.C.*

  • Blah Blah Gallery announces a call for artworks for their 2025 Juried Exhibition, open to emerging and mid-career women and non-binary artists working in any medium. This group exhibition will be curated by Blah Blah Director Megan Galardi, and will take place in January 2025.

Field Projects Winter Open Call | New York, NY

  • Field Projects announces WINTER 2024 Open Call! Emerging and mid-career artists are invited to submit their work for consideration in our group exhibition. All submissions will be considered for the Exhibition and the accompanying Online Exhibition. Simultaneously, Field Projects Panel will be considering the submissions for future Solo Shows, Art Fairs, Group Shows, Off-site Exhibitions, feature on our social media and our studio visit program (NY Artists).

Alterwork Residency | Long Island City, NY

  • This residency allows emerging contemporary artists time and space to create new work exploring their practice. The residency culminates in a solo closing reception that is promoted across an extensive network. Proposals should have a contemporary art focus showing experimentation and career reach for the artist. The program is especially interested in projects that involve conceptual art, practice or theory, or involve the public in their creative process.

ART14 Residency | Patton, Pennsylvania

  • During their stay, artists’ objectives are self-prescribed. The program welcomes all types of artists, writers, musicians, etc. of all skill levels, welcomes creators to explore new media and techniques, and encourages collaboration but does not require it. Residents are encouraged to explore and engage with the local community.

Pollock-Krasner Foundation

  • The Foundation welcomes applications from visual artists who are painters, sculptors, and artists who work on paper, including printmakers. Grants are intended for a one-year period of time. The Foundation will review expenditures relating to an artist’s professional work and personal expenses, and amounts range up to $50,000. Artists must be actively exhibiting their current work in professional artistic venues, such as gallery and museum spaces.

Alper Initiative for Washington Art | Washington DC*

  • We accept and review submissions on a rolling basis from Washington, DC, artists of all ages and backgrounds, exploring different mediums. By submitting, your proposal will be added to the AIWA database and available for review by the museum’s director and curator, and to guest curators for potential inclusion in future AIWA exhibitions.

Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant

  • The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant program provides interim financial assistance to qualified painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen, catastrophic incident.

  • The maximum amount of this grant is $15,000; an award of $5,000 is typical.

MOCA Summer Positions | Arlington, VA*

  • The Museum of Contemporary Art in Arlington is searching to fill four positions in their upcoming summer camp for kids and teens. The season runs from June 17- August 16.

  • The positions available are Summer Education Assistant, Summer Ceramics Education Assistant, Art Instructor, ceramics Instructor.

Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grants

  • Emergency Grants is the only active, multi-disciplinary program that offers immediate, project-based assistance of this kind to artists living and working anywhere in the United States, for projects occurring in the U.S. and abroad. Grants range in amount from $500 to $3,000, and the average grant is $1,900.

The Awesome Foundation

  • The Awesome Foundation is a global community advancing the interest of awesome in the universe, $1000 at a time. Each fully autonomous chapter supports projects through micro-grants, usually given out monthly. Projects include initiatives in a wide range of areas including arts, technology, community development, and more. Many awesome projects are novel or experimental, and evoke surprise and delight.

Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund

  • The Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund provides support to creators during times of extraordinary hardship. Current Fund efforts are focused on supporting creators who have been directly impacted by the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. If selected, you will receive $10,000 from the Adobe Creative Residency Community Fund.

Awesome Foundation on the Water Grant

  • This grant awards $1,000 per month to a water-focused project that brings creativity, culture, and inclusion to the water or provides a new way of thinking about the water. Applicants can be based anywhere in the world.

SUBMISSIONS

FLATFILE

Along with specific exhibition proposals, artists may submit samples of their work to be considered for inclusion in our FlatFile program - a growing collection of works on paper in a variety of two-dimensional mediums including photography, painting, drawing, and printmaking, approximately 16" x 20" in size and smaller, & priced under $500.

EXHIBITIONS

With a unique store-front exhibition space at 1404 P Street, NW, Transformer’s Exhibition Series, consisting of six to seven exhibitions per season, encourages artists to be site-responsive, often producing a deeper and more thoughtful exploration of ideas and solutions to the presentation of their work. Exhibitions run five to six weeks and are organized by Transformer staff in conjunction with participating artists, guest curators, and advisors.

Artists are never charged fees for participating in Transformer’s exhibition series nor to have their work considered. We are not a commercial gallery, we do not offer artist representation, and only offer ONE solo exhibition per year - for which we do not accept applications.
