Transformer is thrilled to announce our 2018 Collector’s View series, the 11th year of this innovative program in support of our vital exhibitions and programs advancing emerging contemporary artists!
Collector’s View shares the private collections of a select and diverse group of DC’s prominent contemporary art collectors. Through this series of special receptions, guests are provided an intimate, insider’s perspective on the motivations, interests, and passions of our dynamic collector Hosts on the work they collect. In celebration of our 11th season of the series, we are excited to present a unique line-up of Views highlighting the intersection of architecture, design, and art.

Participation for Collector's View is $75 per person for each View.
$350 / Full Series Package
Transformer is offering a special discount package of $350 for registration of all five Views in this year's series, plus complimentary attendance to this year's Bonus Artist View, offered exclusively to Full Series supporters.
Attendance for each View is limited, so be sure to secure your tickets today!
All Collector’s View ticket and subscription purchases are fully tax-deductible to the extent the law allows. All proceeds directly benefit Transformer’s exhibitions and programming.
Addresses for each View will be emailed to confirmed guests a few days prior to each View.

Elise Hoffmann & Chris Niemczewski (Chevy Chase, MD)

Elise Hoffmann and Chris Niemczewski welcome Collector’s View participants into their Chevy Chase home to view their collection of contemporary art. Many of the artists in their collection work (or have worked) in the DC area, but tend to embrace an aesthetic and a point of view that extend well beyond the region, with a focus on such themes as politics and identity, suburban malaise, and anomie. Artists include Trevor Young, Hadieh Shafie, Lillian Hoover, Chan Chao, Jason Gubbiotti, Loredana Nemes, Dierk Maass, Julie Wolfe, Holly Bass, Hsin-Hsi Chen, and collaborative works from Dennis O’Neill’s Hand Print Workshop. Trevor Young will be present at the View.
Connie Carter & Gordon Dale (Kent, DC)

Connie Carter and Gordon Dale welcome Collector’s View participants into their mid-century modern home (1957) located in Kent, Washington DC to view their collection of contemporary art. The house was designed by Thomas Stohlman, a student of Louis Kahn, and updated by Robert M Gurney and Mark McInturff. In addition to the works of several American artists, many of the artists in their collection are from Australia where Connie lived 1991-96. Over time it has become evident to Connie she has mainly collected art made by women. Artists include: Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Michael Nelson Tjakamarra, Daisy Loongkoonan (Aboriginal), Cynthia Breusch, Eva Hannah (Australia) Wolf Kahn, Jackie Battenfield, Kay Jackson, James Dicke II, Thomas Worthington Whittredge (Hudson River School) and George Sharp (UK). DC based artists include Izette Folger, Georgia Nassikas, Pamela Gwaltney, Sally Levie, Cynthia Howar, and Nora Macoby.
Durwood Dixon (Shaw, DC)

Durwood Dixon started collecting artwork soon after graduating from college. Originally focused on ceramics, he then moved on to fabrics, had a photography period, and then moved on to paintings and sculptures. There is no particular theme to his collection, just what catches his attention and pleases his aesthetics. Durwood moved to Washington, DC in 1977, and made an effort to keep an eye out for art created by DC based artists. A relative percentage of his collection features DC area artists, including: Rockne Krebs, John Winslow (who lives next door to Durwood), Heather Krebs (the daughter of Rockne), Amy Lamb, Felix Osuchukwuu, Laurel Hausler, Tom Nakashima (a former neighbor in Durwood's building) Greg Hanna, Mark Planisek, Stuart Greenwell, and Tom Pattison.
Nuria Carrillo & Kerry Scanlon (Chevy Chase, MD)

Nuria Carrillo and Kerry Scanlon welcome Collector’s View participants to their Chevy Chase home to view their collection of contemporary art and the architecture of Jim Olson, an internationally acclaimed architect whose warm and contemporary design provides a stunning backdrop for both paintings and sculpture. The owners’ collection features artists from areas which have been important in their lives, including Washington DC, Mexico and Seattle. Many of the works have roots in 20th Century abstract expressionism and the Washington Color School of the 1950's and 60's, but most of the artists are still active today, refining and developing their art forms with fresh and innovative ideas. The collection includes paintings by Jacob Kainen, Karen Silve, Ricardo Pinto, Paul Balmer, Steven Cushner, Linling Lu, Julie Wolfe, Mark Rediske, Emi Winter, Matthew Langley and Didier Mayes, and sculpture by Jorge Yazpik, Scott Fife and Jim Perry.
Tricia Huntley (Foxhall, DC)

Interior designer Tricia Huntley has cultivated an interest in art since a young age, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Photography and Art History before obtaining her Master’s degree in Interior Design from George Washington University. As in her design work, Ms. Huntley’s artistic leanings are eclectic: modern photography, abstract paintings, sculpture of all kinds, vintage portraits and antique works on paper. In her mid-century Foxhall Village home, she strives for a varied, yet edited collection--one that speaks to her own diverse viewpoints and sense of humor while respecting the architecture’s simplicity. Many pieces in her home are influenced by a life in Washington and a desire to support local galleries and artists--including works from DC based artists Larry Cook, Leslie Holt, Dan Treado and Julie Wolfe.

Margaret Bakke (North Arlington, VA)

Margaret Bakke grew up in Washington, DC and now lives with her husband Jesus Canales and one year old daughter in their art-filled Arlington home. An artist and art lover, Margaret studied fine art at Columbia University and was a printmaker at Columbia's Leroy Neiman Center for Print Studies before moving back to the DC area. She makes prints at the Discover Graphics studio in Old Town Alexandria and has a painting studio in her home. Her collection includes works by Ghada Amer, Dasha Shishkin, Kimia Ferdowsi Kline, and Tomas Vu, as well as many DC-based artists.
