The 4th Year of Transformer’s Annual Series sharing the private collections of DC’s prominent contemporary art collectors

With the 2011 Collector's View series, Transformer is excited to expand our 4th year of the program to include two special new views provided complimentary to purchasers of our four view series: Artist View and Corporate Collection View.
Sharing the private collections of a select and diverse group of DC's leading contemporary art collectors through a series of special receptions, Transformer's annual spring Collector's View series highlights the relationship collectors have with artists, the role they play in building artists' careers, as well as their impact in creating healthy arts communities – while providing tremendous support for Transformer's exhibitions and programs.
Through the generosity of several leading DC contemporary art collectors, Transformer invites Collector's View participants into some of Washington's best homes for personal "views" of a diverse range of private art collections. Participants will be privy to learn, from an insider's perspective, the motivations, interests and passions of these dynamic collectors on the work they collect.
Each "view" in the series promises to be as unique as the collectors and collections themselves – with personal anecdotes on how certain works were acquired, conversations with guest artists from the collections, insight from curators and collections managers, as well as how works have been integrated into each collector's home. Light fare, refreshments, and cocktails will be served at each event.
Participation in the Collector's View series is $75 dollars per person for each "view."
All donations via the Collector's View series are fully tax-deductible, and will directly benefit Transformer and our 2011 / 2012 Exhibition series.

The Podesta's invite Collector's View guests into their home to see newly installed photographs, paintings, and sculpture by ten German artists: Matthias Bitzer, Thomas Demand, Andreas Gursky, Candida Hofer, Nils Karsten, Anselm Kiefer, Julia Oschatz, Frank Thiel, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Janaina Tschape.
VIEW 2: ISABEL & RICARDO ERNST
Georgetown, DC
Thursday, April 21, 2011; 6 – 8pm
Contemporary Art collectors Isabel and Ricardo Ernst will welcome you to their home, one of Washington´s renovated historical houses, the Hillandale Mansion, a Tuscan Villa built in the 1920´s. Their contemporary art collection includes artist such as: Richard Artshwager, Rodney Glaham, Wade Guyton, Ana Mendieta, Beatriz Milhazes, Sarah Morris, Vic Muñiz, Takashi Murakami, Tal R, and Kelley Walker.

VIEW 3: ANNA-LENA WETZEL & DAVID KAMENETZKY

Anna-Lena Wetzel & David Kamenetzky invite Collector's View participants into their recently redesigned Dupont Circle home to view a specially commissioned light installation by New York artist Gandalf Gavan, as well as works by Holger Jacobs and Kyan Bishop.
VIEW 4: PETER F. HAPSTAK III, AIA

Having just formed hapstak demetriou +, Peter invites Collector's View participants to his new home, a non-dis-improved Federal in Dupont Circle, to view his collection of emerging art. Representing over a decade of collecting, artist in Peters collection include: Robin & Hanna Rose, Patrick Wilson, Noelle Tan, Annie Adjchavanich, Therese Lahale, Marc Dennis, Trevor Young, Kevin Kepple, Jeff Wilson, Molly Allen, Brandon Morse, Jenny Yang, and Graham Caldwell.

ARTIST VIEW: BILLY COLBERT
Shaw, DC

For this view, collectors and audience will hear from the perspective of artist. Billy Colbert will open up his studio to talk about his work, and the relationships he has developed with curators, non-profits, commercial galleries, museums and other entities to present and sell his work. Colbert has used popular culture, personal experiences and cultural leveraging to serve as narrative for his 2D and 3D mixed media works. His work was recently seen in the Hollywod film Hall Pass, a comedy staring Owen Wilson. A few of his private collectors and public collections include the University of Wisconsin at Madison, the National Academy of Sciences and noted actor, Jeffery Wright. He is represented by Mason Murer Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia.
CORPORATE VIEW: J.P. MORGAN

The JPMorgan Chase Art Collection began in 1959 when then-President David Rockefeller established the firm's Art Program and took the lead in the field of corporate art collecting. Integrating artwork with the architecture of new buildings and incorporating an enlightened approach to acquisitions, this forerunner of corporate collections became a model for other companies worldwide. Today, it is one of the oldest and largest corporate art collections in the world, encompassing painting, sculpture, works on paper, and photography which continues to be the strength of our portfolio. This core collection is enhanced by a diverse and eclectic range of objects from every country in which we do business, offering a unique perspective on our firm's shared culture.
This tour of the J.P. Morgan - D.C. office art collection highlights works by a diverse group of established and emerging artists including Alma Thomas, William Christenberry, Sam Francis, Claes Oldenburg, Jane Kaplowitz, Martin Puryear, Sam Gilliam, Betty Woodman and Kelly Ording.
